pectoralis major
O: medial part of the clavicle (clavicular part), ventral surface of the sternum together with parts of the first six ribs (sternocostal); aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle (abdominal part)
INS: crest of major tubercle of the humerus
INN: medial + lateral pectoral nerve
FUN: medial rotation + adduction + ventral flexion of the arm
pectoralis minor
O: 3rd to 5th rib (often 2nd-4th)
INS: coracoid process of the scapula
INN: Medial and lateral pectoral nerve
FUN: protraction + depression of the scapula
serratus anterior muscle
O: 8-10 slips from the first 9 ribs
INS: medial area of the scapula + inferior angle of the scapula
INN: long thoracic nerve
FUN: pulls scapula towards chest + lateral rotation of the scapula + abduction of arm above horizontal
Trapezius muscle
O: medial third of the superior nuchal line + external occipital protuberance + nuchal ligament to C1-C6 (descendent part); C7-T3 (transversal part); T4-T12 (ascendant part)
INS: spine of scapula
INN: accessory nerve + branches from C3-C4
FUN: fixation and elevation of the scapula + depression of the scapula + lateral rotation of the scapula
Latissimus Dorsi muscle
O: T7-S5; thoracolumbar faschia; posterior superior iliac spine; external lip of the crest of the ilium; 10th-12th ribs
INS: crest of the minor tubercle of the humerus
INN: thoracodorsal nerve
FUN: medial rotation, adduction and dorsal flexion in the shoulder joint
Levator scapulae muscle
O:posterior tubercle of C3-C4
INS: superior angle of the scapula
INN: dorsal scapular nerve
FUN: elevation + inward rotation + medial rotation of scapula
Rhomboid minor muscle
O: spinous process of C6-C7
INS: upper middle third of the scapula
INN: dorsal scapular nerve
FUN: pulls the scapula mediocranially
Rhomboid major muscle
O: T1-T4
INS: lower medial 2 thirds of the scapula
INN: dorsal scapular nerve
FUN: pulls scapula mediocranially
