Upper Limb Flashcards
Medial Pectoral nerve supplies
Pectoralis Major and Minor
Insertion of serratus anterior
- First digitation is opposite to the superior angle of scapula
- 2nd and 3rd digitations along the medial border
- Lower 5 are opposite to the inferior angle
Winging of the scapula
Caused by injury to the long thoracic nerve which supplies serratus anterior muscle and causes paralysis of the muscle
Protraction and depression of the shoulder is the action of
Pectoralis minor and serratus anterior
Trapezius origin
- External occipital protuberance + medial 1/3 of superior nucheal line
- Ligamentum nuchea and c7 spine
- T1-T12 spines and supraspinous ligaments
Spinal accessory nerve supplies
Trapezius
Origin of Lat Dorsi
- Pelvic: posterior lip of iliac crest
- Vertebral: lumbar fascia and spines of lower 6T
- Costal: back of 3/4 lower ribs
- Scapular: behind inferior angle of scapula
Retraction of scapula
Middle fibers of Trapezius and rhomboideus major and minor
Nerve to rhomboideus
Levator scapulae, rhomboideus major and minor
The muscle that brings the extended arm to the resting position (flexion)
Clavicular head of P. Major
Muscle that brings back the flexed arm to the resting position
Sternocostal head of P. Major
Bicipital groove of humerus receives insertion of
- Medial lip: teres major
- Floor: Lat. Dorsi
- Lateral lip: pectoralis major
Initiation of shoulder abduction
Supraspinatus
Greater turberosity of the humerus receives the insertion of
Upper impression: Supraspinatus
Middle impression: Infraspinatus
Lowest impression: teres minor
Elevation of scapula
Upper fiber of Trapezius and Levator Scapulae
