Upper Limb 1 Station 4 - Shoulder Joint Flashcards
What is the shoulder joint called?
Glenohumeral joint
What type of joint is the GH joint?
Synovial ball and socket joint.
What is the rim of cartilage surrounding the socket (glenoid cavity) called? What is its function?
Glenoid labrum
Function - increase surface area and deepens the glenoid cavity
What does the glenohumeral ligament do ?
Strengthens the anterior aspect of the joint capsule
What does the coracohumeral ligament do?
Strengthens the superior aspect of the joint capsule
What is the coracoacromial arch made up of?
Acromion process of scapula - coracoacromial ligament and coracoid process of scapula
What is the coracoacromial arch made up of?
Acromion process of scapula - coracoacromial ligament and coracoid process of scapula
What is the coracoacromial arches function?
Prevents displacement of the humeral head
What part of the inferior joint capsule is weakest and why?
Inferior part as it is not protected by any muscles or ligaments
Why are bursae important?
Provide cushioning around joints via their fluid filled interior.
Which bursa communicates with the joint cavity ?
Subscapular bursa
Role of subacromial bursa? What common injury damages this bursa?
Facilitates the movement of the supraspinatus tendon and the deltoid muscle
Dislocation
Tendon vs ligament difference?
A tendon is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches muscle to bone
A ligament is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches bone to bone
Tendon vs ligament difference?
Both are fibrous connective tissues but tendon us muscle to bone and ligament is bone to bone
