Upper Extremity ME Flashcards
How do you diagnosis radial head dysfunction
Patient shoulders relaxed and forearms at 90 degree flexion
- simultaneously pronate and supinate the forearms assessing range of motions
- palpate the radial head
Distal radius moves anteriorly/medially During supination
What muscle pulls the SC joint inferiorly and is the muscle being worked on with SC joint ME?
Pectoralis major
Position
- abduction (no more than 45-60 degrees
- extend
- externally rotate the arm
Do this to the feathered barrier and instruct the patient to match force
when positing further, DONT abduct past 60 degrees
What is the plane of scaption?
90 degrees abduction
30 degrees horizontal flexion
What position is the patients forearms and shoulders placed in when diagnosing radial head somatic dysfunctions?
Shoulders are relaxed
‘Forearms are at 90 degrees of flexion
radial head moves posteriorly w/ pronation and anterior w/ supination
How do you position the hands when fixing flexion wrist somatic dysfunction?
Patient shoulders are relaxed and the forearms are at 90 degrees of flexion
Sit or stand in front of the patient and locate the radiocarpal joint
- place the 5th digit of each hand along this joint line and grasp the patients palms with both thumbs
How do you position the hands when fixing flexion wrist somatic dysfunction?
Patient shoulders are relaxed and the forearms are at 90 degrees of flexion
Support the patients distal forearm w/ one hand
- grasp the dorsum of the patients hand just distal to the radiocarpal joint w/ the other hand
