scapular winging
have patient push against the wall and scapula will wing out asymmetrically (serratus anterior muscle is weak or problem with long thoracic nerve)
drop arm test
lift pt arm up and falls back down (tear in muscles that make up rotator cuff, usually supraprinatus)
Yergason test
hold elbow and pull or push wrist and YERG on it! there will be pain at shoulder. bicep tendonitis
apprehension test
pushing on shoulder and pulling arm back–indicates weakness and hx of previous dislocation
tennis elbow test (lateral epicondylitis) 57
lateral epicondyle; have patient hyperextend wrist and you push down and tell them to resist and feel pain in lateral elbow
Tinel sign - elbow wrist 83
tingle in wrist - tap on medial nerve on wrist (carpal)
tingle in elbow - tap on ulnar nerve in elbow (cubital)
Allen test
press on blood vessels that run parallel in the forearm (radial and ulnar) to test patency
Finkelstein test
make fist with thumb tucked in, push down, positive sign is pain due to inflammation of nerve in thumb sheath
Phalen’s test 83
have patient place backs of hands together and sends tingles down through thumb–positive sign is carpal tunnel syndrome
