Untitled Deck Flashcards
What is the microscopic structural unit of the kidney?
uniferous tubule (nephron + collecting duct)
What is another name for the thick Descending loop of Henley?
pars recta (straight) proximal convoluted tubule
What are the two types of nephrons?
Cortical and juxtamedullary
What is the function of the cortical nephron?
urine formation / filtration
What is the function of the juxtamedullary nephron?
urine formation / counter current multiplier (concentrates the urine)
What is the papilla?
The semicircle looking thing at the end of the medulla that acts as the junction between the micro and macro
What are the holes in the papilla called?
area cribosa
The area that has cribs and the cribs have doors which are like holes for things to pass in them
What is the tube that the substances exit the papilla from called?
papillary ducts of Bellini
What is the order of the epithelium in the uniferous tubules?
Simple squamous, simple cuboidal, (simple squamous in thin loop of Henley) simple columnar
What is the epithelium of the visceral layer of the Bowman’s capsule?
modified simple squamous with podocytes
The feet want to push the particles out
What is the epithelium of the parietal layer of the Bowman’s capsule?
simple squamous with fenestration
What is the epithelium of the PCT?
simple cuboidal with microvilli
What is the epithelium of the thin loop of Henley?
Simple squamous
What is the epithelium of the thick ascending loop of Henley / vasa recta of the DCT?
Simple cuboidal epithelium
What is the epithelium of the collecting duct system?
Simple cuboidal at the start in the cortex, then simple columnar with short microvilli in the medulla
