• decrease gastric acid
• don’t crush extended release (XR)
• long acting
• give once daily maybe twice daily
• administer 30 mins before meals
• monitor for hepatic/renal function

Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI’s)
(Pantoprazole [iv], Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, Esomeprazole [iv])
• short acting
• decreases ph of gastric acid
• give 1 hour before meals
• giver 2-3 hours after meals
• do not give within 1-2 hours of other drugs due to it affecting absorption
• can be given at bed time
• occasional use not daily
• can cause C/D
• assess stools
Antacids
(Magnesium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide with aluminum hydroxide, sucralfate( dihydroxyaluminum)
• decreases bad acid & nocturnal acid
• give a single dose at bedtime
• monitor output
• assess renal function
• take med correctly
• it not working take PPI
• can cause HA, confusion, D/C
Histamine Receptor Antagonist
(Famotidine, Cimetidine)
• for infections
Antibiotic
(Gentamicin, Clarithromycin, Metronidazole)
• helps you poop
• promotes bowel movement
Bulk forking laxative
Calcium polycarbophil
• increase upper GI motility
• increase lower esophageal sphincter tone
Antiemetics
(Metoclopramide)
