Unite Test- Cells And Organelles Flashcards
Cell membrane
Separates the interior environment from the exterior environment of the cell. It is semi permeable
Cytoplasm
Used to keep organelles in place. It includes the cytosol
Mitochondria (singular: mitochondrion)
Where energy is released from glucose to produce ATP and is used to fuel all cell activities
Ribosomes
Help to produce proteins, are required for activities necessary for cells survival.
Float around the cytoplasm and are also attached to the endoplasmic reticulum
Endoplasmic reticulum
Transports materials around the cell
Nucleus
Controls all cell activities, holds chromosomes-> DNA-> genes
Vesicle
Transports and or store materials inside the cell and sometimes help these materials cross the cell membrane to enter exit the cell
Golgi body
Sorts and packages proteins and other molecules for transportation out of the cell.
Vacuoles
Contain water and other materials and are used to store or transport small molecules.
plant cells tend to have one large vacuole.
Animal cells have many small vacuoles or none.
cytoskeleton
Slender thread like fiber, that provide a framework for the cell, helping maintain its structure and providing tracts along which vesicles and organelles can move.
Cell wall
A tough rigid structure, provides support for plant cell’s
Chloroplast
Trap energy from the sun to make glucose which is broken down in the mitochondria to power cell activities.
Organelles .
Cellular organelles are the organs that make up a cell, tiny cell structures within the cytoplasm that are specialized to carry out a function required for cell survival
