You put “Est-ce que” in front of the statement, signifying a question
What happens to “Est-ce que” when the next word starts with a vowel?
It turns into “Est-ce qu’”
Ex. “Est-ce qu’il est ici?”
Tu es américain, n’est-ce pas?
You are American, aren’t you?
Tu aimes parler français, n’est-ce pas?
You like to speak French, don’t you?
Vous êtes d’accord, n’est-ce pas?
You agree, don’t you?
What does “n’est-ce pas” signify?
You add “n’est pas” to the end of a statement to form a yes/no question where you expect the other person to agree with you
It can mean aren’t you, don’t you, etc.
