Nature
The belief that human traits come from there nature and genes
Nurture
The belief that human traits come from the world around them
Enculturation
Learning ones culture through experiences, instructions, and observation
Ethnocentrism
False belief that one’s culture is better than another
Xenophobia
Fear of strangers which leads people to imagine unfavourable things and distorts reality for them
Marginalization
Is a form of rejection in which the individual is denied the opportunity to play a significant role in the affairs of a group/exclusion
Acceptance
Is a group process where the individual is included, given a role and some significance in the groups affairs
Race
Categorization I have groups of people based on genetics physical traits etc.
Racism
But a leaf that race is the leading factor in human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inferior security. It is a combination of stereotyping and prejudice and discrimination
Prejudice
An attitude forms without just friends or significant knowledge directed against an individual, group, or released based on their supported characteristics
Stereotype
A generalization used to define a group of people
Discrimination
The action people take based on stereotypes and prejudice
Blatant discrimination
A form of discrimination that can be clearly seen
Example refusing a person employment because of his or her race
Hidden discrimination
Something that is hidden
Unwritten policy of not hiring an individual based on race
Prejudice examples
It is sometimes assumed that someone who is physically disabled is also mentally disabled.
Not renting a home to a gay couple
Assuming someone is gay based on the way they act
Stereotype examples
All blondes are dumb
All women should be in the kitchen
All men like hockey
Discrimination examples
Killing a black person based on there race
Refusing someone employment based on there race
Unwritten policy in a workplace to not hire people of different genders
Socialization
the adoption of the behavior patterns of the surrounding culture
Social Contract
an implicit agreement among people that results in the organization of society; individual surrenders liberty in return for protection
Acculturation
Ethnic groups with different cultures who live with one another in a single community house to learn to adjust to each other’s ways they can do this through four different ways. One annihilation to segregation three assimilation for accommodation

These people believed in the British way of ruling
Came from many European countries but mostly from Europe
Created a way of life based on British traditions moulded to fit the realities of Canadian environment

Caused by European economy suffering and political unrest
Population grew by 2 million people in this time
Most came to Atlantic Canada
Rest populated all over the country
Post confederation immigration

- police force and railway were created
- campaign started in Europe to target people with a agricultural background
- Prairies became the most culturally diverse area in Canada
- created very unique identities for future generations
Postwar immigration

- recently most immigration is from southeast Asian countries, Middle East and South America
