Unit Test Flashcards
Charging by contact
A form of charging in which a charged object touches a neutral object and transfers electrons to it
Charging by induction
A form of charging in which a charged object is used to induce a charge in a neutral object and then the newly changed object is grounded so that it retains the charge
Conduction
The movement or transmission of electrons through a substance
Conductivity
The ability of the material to allow electrons to move freely within it
Conductors
A material that allows the movement of electrons
Electric charges
Charged particles that exert a force on each other
Electric discharge
The process by which electric charges are transferred very quickly
Electron affinity
The tendency of a substance to hold on to electrons
Electrons
A negatively charge particle in an atom located outside the nucleus of an atom
Electroscope
An instrument that can detect static electric charge
Electrostatics
The study of static electric charges
Friction
The force that occurs when objects rub against each other
Grounding
The process of connecting a charge object to earth surface
Induction
The movement of electrons within an object caused by nearby object without direct contact between the two objects
Insulator
Material that resist or blocks the movement of electrons
Neutrons
A natural particle in an atom located in the nucleus of an atom
Nucleus
The centre of an atom where all the atoms, positive charge, and most of an atoms masses concentrated
Protons
A positively charged particle in an atom located in the nucleus of atom
Static electric charge
An electric charged up builds up on the surface of an object
Which substance particle is transferred to create a charge
Electrons
