What is a select committee?
Small committee that is appointed for a certain purpose
What is a Conference committee?
Conference that is appointed by congress to resolve certain disagreements on a certain bill
What is a joint committee?
A committee made of people from both the house of reps and senate
How/when congressional boundary lines are drawn and what’s one rule?
- every 10 years
- equal population
- no malapportionment ( drawing district lines without distribution)
What is the elastic clause?
Granting congress the power to pass all laws necessary and proper for carrying out the enumerated list of powers
What is a filibuster?
Something like a prolonged speech to halt the process of congress
What is gerrymandering?
The manipulation of the boundary lines to greatly benefit one power
What is Bi-cameral legislature
When both senate and house of reps make laws together
What is a standing committee?
Permanent committee established by congress
What are some jobs that are in congress and what are there jobs?
Speaker of House- in charge of setting ground work and prioritize what bills are going to be debated
Majority/minority leader-leaders of the majority party or minority parts
Senate President-organizes committees sets to do list
Whips- there job is to make sure everyone thinks and votes one way and leads conversation
How did Reynolds vs Sims affect congress?
It put limits on how congress could do the redistricting lines
Why is bi-cameras legislation important?
It is important because it’s important to have both houses so one house doesn’t have a complete control of one important thing
When who and how are district lines drawn?
Districting lines are made every 10 years.

Redistricting is the drawing of the lines and re-apportionment is the redrawing of those lines
