Unit School 1st Test Flashcards
What is the purpose of the first stage reactor section?
To protect the second stage catalyst.
What do the first three beds of the first stage reactor do?
Removes oxygen, sulfur, water, nitrogen compounds, suspended solids, and certain metallic salts.
What are the ISO 2 feed sources?
•Hot feed from crude 2 (FC-101)
-atmospheric column 4th side cut
-vacuum column 5th side cut
•Hot feed from crude 1 (FC-1184)
-atmospheric column 5th side cut
-vacuum column 6th side cut
•Cold feed from tankage (P-6200&PC-3127)
-Tank 111
-Tank 104
•LCO From tank Field (FC-0065)
What controller shows total fees rate?
FC-104
What maintains the suction pressure to P-6210/A
PC-3127
*P-6200 cold feed pump feeds this controller, it makes up the difference needed for total flow. Example, if plan calls for 38mbpd, and FC-3154 (CU1 Hot) FC-101 (CU2 Hot) and FC-0065 (LCO) only equals 31mbpd, then PC-3127 will need to be set for 7mbpd to make it 38.
What is the main purpose of E-6265?
To preheat the combined feed stream.
It does this by a slipstream from P-6263/A (C-6260 bottoms reboiler circulation pumps).
*Feed is tube side
* Splitter bottoms are shell side
What is the purpose of the feed filters?
To remove (filter) particulates from the feed stream. If not removed they can plug the catalyst.
Why are backflow preventers (BFP) needed? What does FC-3154 (After P-6210/A but before BFP) do?
They prevent the reactor pressure from backing through the feed pump to the lower pressure system. FC-3154 opens when the BFP closes and sends to off test.
What’s the purpose of the condensate injection system? Why is stripped water preferred?
Condensate injection the removes Ammonia and H2S created by the hydrogenation of N2 compounds in R-6210. Stripped water or condensate can be used. Stripped water is preferred because it has no oxygen and the pH is monitored by the sulfur unit. If the pH is less than 7.0, then condensate is used.
What is inside of D-6210 and what happens in the drum?
D-6210 is a a three phase separator. Hydrogen flashes out the top to the suction of K-6220, there is also a bleed to the 1100# header through FC-194, before the suction of K-6220. Oil is routed to PRT K-6210 on level control with LC-111A/B/C and then to the LPS (D-6231). The sour water containing ammonia and H2S is on level control with LC-310 to sour water header.
What are 3 hazards of ISO2
H2S, Benzene, Ammonia, nickel carbonyl, fires, high pressure.
How do you dispose of used oil?
Do not put used oil into the storm sewers, all used oil should be collected in the used oil drums.
What reactions occur in 1st stage reactor section
Denitrification, desulfurization, olefin hydrogenation, aromatic saturation, and hydrocracking
