Unit One Terms Flashcards
What happens when presure increases
Favours side with fewer molecules - shifts to the products
What happens when pressure decreases
Favours side with more molecules- shifts to the products
What happens when temperature rises
Favours endothermic reaction- shifts to the reactants to absorb heat
What happens when temperature decreases
Favours exothermic reaction- shifts to product to create more heat
What happens when you add more to the reactants side
Shifts to the product side
What happens when you add to the products side
Shifts to the reactants side
What happens when you remove something from the reactant side
Shifts to products
What do catalyst change?
Catalyst does not affect position of equilibrium. It speeds the reaction in both directions, so that it reaches equilibrium faster
What kind of “stress” could a chemical reaction be subjected to?
-change in concentration
-change in temperature
-change in pressure (only affects gases)
Four macroscopic
-Concentration (and amount)
-Temperature
-pressure
-change in color
Explain why equilibrium systems are described as dynamic
Because both forward and reverse reactions continue to take place at equilibrium
