A family made up of parents and their children. Can be large or small.

Many generations of family living in one house. Could be grandparents, aunts, uncles.

Language
The way that culture is communicated. It is not always formal or written, but does reflect cultural identity.
Arts and literature
teach us about cultural values and are a source of identify and prider.
Religion
Answers questions about purpose and meaning of life
Major religions
Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam
Monotheism
Religion that believes in one God.
Polytheism
Religion that believes in many Gods.
Government
formed to provide basic needs like order and protection for a society.
Democracy
A government system in which the people hold the power
Republic
A government system in which the people choose their leaders.
Dictatorship
A government where a small group or individual hold power by force.
Economic Systems
How people can use resources to meet their wants and needs.
Democratic Republic
Government system in which the people have the power, but elect officials to represent them. This is the system in the United States.
Traditional Economy
People produce what they need to survive.
Market Economy
Buying and selling goods and services is handled by the people (not government)
Command Economy
The government controls goods, cost and production.
Communism
An example of command economy.
mixed economy
The government has some involvement such as making regulations and price adjustments. Individuals make other decisions also.
U.S. Economy
An example of a mixed economy.
How culture spreads
It is shared and passed down. It allows for our basic needs to be met.
