WORKING WITH CELLS
THE TITLE BAR
Displays name of the application and active presentation. To the far right it has the minimize, restore, and close button.
FILE MENU
Accesses the commonly found functions such as the SAVE AS, SAVE DOCUMENT, AND PRINTING A DOCUMENT.
RIBBON
All tabs which contain all of the buttons to create a workbook.
QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR
It is changeable and allows access to commonly used function such as print preview and print.
RIBBON TABS
Each tab contains functions specific related to that tab. e.g. INSERT, HOME, AND PAGE LAYOUT TAB.
DIALOG BOX LUANCHERS
Displays the dialog boxes relating to the group that it is located on. e.g. dialog box.
NAME BOX
Displays name of the selected cell/s, a value or formular. You can use the name box to access available names.
FORMULAR BAR
Displays the contents of an active cell.
WORKBOOK
An Excel file in which you work and store your data. A workbook can contain as many worksheets as memory will allow.
WORKSHEET WINDOW
Each page in the workbook is called a worksheet. A worksheet contains 16 384 columns and 1 048 576 rows. Columns begin with letter A. Rows begin with number1.
CELLS
The intersection of a column and row is a cell. cells are the basic building blocks of Excel and are referred to by their column and row. e.g. cell A1. Active cell is distinguished by a dark border, known as a cell pointer. Data is always entered in an active cell.
GRID LINES
Show boundaries of rows and columns and cells. By default, gridlines do not print.
NAVIGATION BUTTONS
These buttons scroll through sheets.
SHEET TABS
Click on a sheet tab to move from one sheet to another.
STATUS BAR
Displays current selections, commands or operations.
