Codificattion
process of assembling a system of laws with one statue or body of statues ( ex. Code of Hammurabi)
Restitution
act of making good, returning something stolen or another compensation
Retribution
a deserved penalty or punishment, vengance
Rule of Laws
the fundamental principle that society is vowed by laws which applies equally to all people ( no body is above law )
Habeas Corpus
A document that requires a person to go to court to determine if he is being legally detained
Compurgation
A custom to prove innocence in feudal times, character witness that would swear that their friend is innocent (Majority rules)
Common Law
the body of law created by judges not written as legislation - done overtime
Precedent
A legal decision that serves as an example and authority in subsequent similar cases
Case Law
Interchangeable with common law, based of precedent, that is a judicial decision from Previous cases - judges decision is recorded
Statue Law
Written Law passed by body of legislature ( government passed a law )
Justinian
The Roman emperor, created Roman law
Defendant
A person, company, or institution being accused of a crime
Constitution
The fundamental law principle or existing precedents that constitute law
Substantive Law
Governs how people are suppose to behave, laws that establish principle and defines rights and limitations of society

Giving credibility to your work by identifying the sources you used to the authorities
