UNIT IV: HOST DEFENSE MECHANISMS Flashcards
It is a study of specific resistance to further infection by a particular microorganism to its products
Immunology
Lives on the body of the host or another organism
Parasite
The one who owns the body and the one harming the parasite and possibly causing death
Host
A relationship wherein one party is harming the other
Host-parasite relationship
The resistance offered by the host to the harmful effect of pathogenic microbial infections
A state or resistance to an infectious agent.
Immunity
The immunity that is a natural resistance with which a person is born with
Innate immunity
An acquired immunity when a person meets antigens after birth
Specific immunity
Immunity that depends on antibody production against specific antigen by B. cells
Humoral immunity
Immunity that directly kills foreign cells by the help of helper T cells and T cytotoxic cells
Cellular immunity
Helps fight off infection and can provide protection against getting those diseases again
Antibodies
Substances that cause an immune response in the body identifying substances and try to eliminate them
Antigens
The immunity of a person depends on what?
Ability of the body to recognize and dispose of foreign microorganisms and other naturally occurring organic substances (pollen, dust, cells, etc.)
The two types of immunity that interact and are necessary for survival
Innate immunity
Adaptive immunity
The type of immunity that is the non specific parts of immunity and is the natural resistances with which a person is born.
Innate or Nonspecific Immunity
