Pakikitungo (civility)
a social value that is primarily communitarian, it espouses the ability to adapt.
Pakikisalamuha (act of mixing)
this translates to participation of the entire community to help a person.
Pakikilahok (act of joining)
this runs into conflict with individuality which many Filipinos in fact willingly throw away in favor of conformity with demands of those who are in charge.
Pakikibagay (conformity)
the inner perception of other’s emotions, as a basic tool to guide his dealings with other people
Pakiramdam
Shared inner nobility is a Filipino value that nudges a person towards genuine acts of generosity, kindness and caring
Kagandahang-loob
loosely translated as “shame” by most Western psychologists. Hiya is actually “sense of propriety”.
Hiya (propriety)
norm of reciprocity. Filipinos are expected by their neighbor to return favors – whether these were asked or not – when it is needed or wanted.
Utang na loob(gratitude/solidarity
Smooth Interpersonal Relationship (SRI). This attitude is primarily guided by conformity with the majority.
Pakikisama and pakikipagkapwa
this attitude, translated into English as “fatalistic passiveness” actually describes the Filipino way of life.
Bahala na (determination)
this attitude is characterized by being courageous in the midst of problems and uncertainties.
