Unit F - List A Flashcards
information gathered from an experiment; firsthand evidence from the 5 senses or from machines that extend our senses.
data
an event related to how the world and universe work.
phenomenon
any representation of a system, or its components, to help one study and understand how it works
model
the imaginary line around which an object spins, or rotates. Earth rotates around an axis that runs straight through Earth from the north pole to the south pole.
axis
the phrase of the moon in which the lit portion of the moon visible from Earth’s surface is less than a half circle. Crescents moons occur right after and right before the new moon.
Crescent Moon
an imaginary circle that divides Earth into two halves called the northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere
equator
the phase of the moon, occurring about 7 days after the new Moon, in which the lighted portion of the moon that is visible from Earth’s surface is a half-circle
first-quarter Moon
the phase of the moon that occurs about 14 days after the new Moon in which the complete lighted portion of the moon is visible to the Earth’s surface and appears as a full circle
full moon
a phase of the moon before or after it is full, when more than half of its disk is illumunated
gibbous moon
the phase of the moon that occurs about 7 days after the full Moon in which is lighted portion of the moon that is visible from Earth’s surface is a half circle

the revolution of the Moon around Earth that produces the changing phases of the Moon. One complete lunar cycle takes about 29.5
lunar cycle
a complete circle made by a planet around the sun or by the moon around a planet
orbit
a complete circle made by a planet around the sun or by the moon around a planet
revolution
consistent with evidence
plausible
to travel around another object in a circlular or elliptical path
