Unit F List A Flashcards
Information gathered from an experiment; firsthand evidence from the 5 senses of from machines that extend our senses
Data
An event related to how the world and universe work
Phenomenon
Any representation of a system, or its components, to help one study and understand how it works
Model
The imaginary line around which an object spins, or rotates. Earth rotates around an axis that runs straight through Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole
Axis
Consistent with evidence
Plausible
To turn or spin around an axis
Rotate and Rotation
An imaginary circle that divides Earth into 2 halves called the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere
Equator
A region throughout which the same standard time is used
Time Zone
1 half of a sphere
Hemisphere
A complete circle made by a planet around the sun or by a moon around a planet
Orbit and Revolution
To travel around another object in a circular or elliptical path
Revolve
The phase of the Moon in which the lit portion o the Moon is visible from Earth’s surface is less than half-circle. Crescent Moons occur right after and right before the new Moon.
Crescent Moon
The phase of the Moon that occurs about 14 days after the new Moon in which the lighted portion of the Moon is visible from the Earth’s surface & appears as a full circle
Full Moon
The phase of the Moon, occurring about 7 days after the new Moon, in which the lighted portion of the Moon is visible from the Earth’s surface is a half-circle
First Quarter Moon
A phase of the Moon before or after it is full, when more than half of its disk is illuminated
Gibbous Moon
The phase of the Moon that occurs about 7 days after the full Moon in which the lighted portion of the Moon that is visible form the Earth’s surface in a half-circle
Last Quarter Moon
The revolution of the Moon around Earth that produces the changing phases of the Moon. One complete lunar cycle takes about 29.5 days
Lunar Cycle
The phase of the moon, occurring about 14 days after the full Moon, in which none of the lighted portion of the moon is visible from Earth’s surface
New Moon
The phases of the Moon when the illuminated portion visible from Earth if decreasing
Waning
The phases of the Moon when illuminated portion visible from Earth is increasing
Waxing
