Unit F-List A Flashcards
Information gathered from an experiment; firsthand evidence from the 5 senses or from machines that extend our senses.
data
An event related to how the world and universe works.
phenomenon
Any representation or a system, or its components, to help on the study and understand how it works.
model
The imaginary line around which and object spins, or rotates. Earth rotates around an axis that runs straight through Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole.
axis
Consistent with evidence.
plausible
To turn or spin around an axis.
rotate/rotation
A region throughout which the same standard time is used (there are 24 time zones in the world at approximately by meridians at 15 degree intervals, an hour apart.)
time zone
An imaginary circle that divides Earth into two halves called the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
equator
One half a sphere. (the half of Earth that is north of the equator is the Northern Hemisphere, the half of Earth that is south of the equator is the Southern Hemisphere.
hemisphere
a complete circle made by a planet around a sun or by a moon around a planet.
revolution/orbit
to travel around another object in a circular or elliptical path.
revolve
the phase of moon in which the lit portion of the moon visible from Earth’s surface is less than a half-circle (crescent). Crescent moons occur right after and right before a new moon.
crescent moon
the phase of the moon that occurs about 14 days after a new moon in which the complete lightened portion of the moon is visible from earth’s surface & appears to be a full circle.
full moon
the phase of the moon, occurring about 7 days after the new moon, in which the lightened portion of the moon is visible from earth as a half-circle.
first-quarter moon
a phase of the moon before or after it is full, when more than half of its disk is illuminated.
gibbous moon
