unit F-List A Flashcards
information gathered from an experiment: firsthand evidence from the 5 senses or from machines that extend our knowledge
data
an event related to how the world and universe work
phenomenon
any representation of a system, or its components, to help one study and understand how it works.
model
axis the imaginary line around which an object spins, or rotates. Earth rotates around an axis that runs straight through Earth from the north pole to the south pole.
axis
consistent with evidence
plausible
to turn or spin around an axis
rotate
to turn or spin around an axis
rotation
a region throughout which the same standard time is used. (there are 2 timezones in the world at approximately by meridians at 15 degree intervals, an hour apart.)
time zone
an imaginary circle that divides the Earth in 2 halves called the northern and southern hemispheres
equator
hemisphere one half of a sphere. (the half of Earth that is north of the equator is known as the Northern hemisphere; the half of earth that is south of the equator is the Southern hemisphere
hemisphere
a complete circle made by a planet around the sun or by a moon around a planet
revolution
a complete circle made by a planet around the sun or by a moon around a planet
orbit
to travel around another object in a circular or elliptical path
revolve
the phase of the moon in which the lit portion of the moon visible from earth’s surface is less than half a circle. Crescent moons occur right after and right before the new moon
crescent moon
the phase of the moon that occurs about 14 days after the new moon in which the complete lighted portion of the moon is visible from earth’s surface & appears to be a full circle
full moon
