What is a tourist generator?
A country that produces outbound tourists.
What is the definition of tourist arrivals?
The number of visitors visiting a destination.
What are some of the UK’s most important tourist generators?
USA, Germany, France
What is a tourism receipt?
The amount of money a tourist spends whilst in their destination.
Define balance of payments.
A measure of economic transactions between one country and the rest of the world.
This shows the difference between exports and imports.
What is the difference between direct and indirect employment?
Direct: Jobs created by the travel and tourism industry. For example airline staff, travel agents and hotel staff.
Indirect: A job which supports and supplies for the travel and tourism industry. For example Chefs, hospitality and retail.
What is a customer facing role.
Dealing with a customer face to face. For example a travel agent or a call centre.
What is the role of the support/admin team
Enabling the business to function and complete its aims.
What is the role of a mananger/supervisor.
Manage the work of other employees.
List types of people which the airline industry would need to employ?
Pilots, cabin crew, customer assistants, maintenance crew and engineers.
What is the role of the marketing team?
Developing the businesses marketing strategy and advertising their products available.
What type of things would in-resort staff be responsible for?
Staff in a certain destination who look after the customers and greet them at the airport. They also deal with any problems should any occur.
What is a travel agent?
A customer facing role who recruit people who have just left college, who require good skills and background knowledge of the travel and tourism industry. Examples include TUI and Hays Travel.
Define a visitor attraction.
A place of interest where tourists would visit. This type of job employs both customer facing and support staff, such as maintenance and marketing. Examples include Thorpe Park
What is the role of a trade association?
An administrative role and protecting body, protecting businesses such as airlines and hotels if they go bankrupt.
