Unit B Flashcards
What is the difference between artificial selection and natural selection
Artificial is with human interference and its faster. Natural selection is when nature picks what is bred. Ex. Dog breeding.
Which is more specific? Genes or species
Species.
What factors effect terrestrial ecosystems?
Change in temperature
Soil erosion
Sunlight
Available water
How does nitrogen and phosphorus affect bodies of water?
It affects water by algae bloom and it will take up all of the oxygen and kill off majority of the organisms in the water.
What are the effects of artificial selection?
In artificial selection the strong animals are picked to breed. The weak ones will be weeded out.
What are the 4 layers of the taiga?
Litter, topsoil, subsoil, bedrock
What are the layers of the lake?
Epilimnion, hypolimnion, thermolimnion
What are the zones of the lake?
Littoral, limnetic, profundal
What scientist extisted in Darwin’s time?
Alfred Wallace
What is phylogeny?
The evolution of species
What are two major events that happened years ago?
Cambrian explosion and permium extinction
What are homologus features?
Species with the same bones but have different functions
What is ecology?
The study of ecosystems
What does spruce trees ave that allow them to survive the winters in the taiga?
The trees have wax on the needles to survive the winters
What are the 4 factors of biotic potential?
Birth potential, carrying capacity, breeding frequency, length of productive life
