What is a controlled experiment?
An experiment in which only one variable is tested at a time
What is a fact?
Something that competent observers can agree is true
What is a hypothesis?
An educated guess or a reasonable explanation. When the hypothesis can be tested by experiment, it qualifies as a scientific hypothesis.
What is integrated science?
The study of the five basic natural sciences and the ways they overlap
What are the 5 basic natural sciences?
physics, chemistry, biology, earth science and astronomy
What is a law?
A scientific hypothesis that has been tested over and over again and has not been disproven; also known as a principle.
Pseudoscience
A theory or practice that is considered to be without scientific foundation but purports to use the methods of science
Science
An organized body of human knowledge about nature; also, the process of exploring nature and discovering the order within it
Scientific method
An orderly method for gaining, organizing and applying new knowledge
Technology
The means of solving practical problems by applying the findings of science
Theory
A collection of facts and well-tested hypotheses.
