What is a cadence?
A cadence is the last two chords that end a passage of music.
what are the types of cadences?
- Perfect cadence
- Imperfect cadence
- Pladal cadence
- Interrupted/deceptive cadence

Perfect cadences sound finished.

Whether the key of the song is in major or minor.

what does polyphonic/contrapuntal mean?
when two or more independent melodies are played at the same time.
what does homophonic mean?
not homphobic.. get that pstd away.
Each instrument plays in the same rhythm.
what’s a trill?
When two notes are played alternatively in quick succession.
what’s a canon?
a melody repeated over itself.
what does strophic mean?
when verses repeat with the same melody.
what’s a pedal? inverted pedal?
a pedal is a long held bass note.
an inverted pedal is a long held high note.
what’s a form?
the structure of a music piece.
what’s a dominant 7th chord? what is it used for?
A flattened 7th note on chord V (5).
It’s used to make a perfect cadence sound more perfect.
what’s a 6th chord? what is it used for?
A 6th chord is an added 6th degree on any chord.
Used to sound jazzy.
what is meant by chord triad?
the 3 notes that compose a chord. (usually note 1, 3, 5)
what notes does the Alberti bass consist of? describe the pattern of the Alberti bass.
Any chord triad; notes 1, 3 and 5.
Usually goes 1, 5, 3, 5
