Kinds of fundamental rights
A
- first generation rights (blue rights): civil, procedural and political rights . Protect us from abuse of state power. Right to equality, human dignity, life, freedom of expression
- second generation rights (red rights): important during socialist revolutions. Socio-economic issues. Allow people you demand that their basic sociopath-economic needs are dealt with by the government. Right to education, health care, food and water
- Third generation rights (green rights): more to do with group than individual. Right to clean air

What are fundamental rights?
A
- every person is born with human dignity, and it is this human dignity that gives a person a claim to human rights. You do not have to work for these rights ~ they are your natural fights, ie they are fundamental to each human being. Every person has them and the state cannot take them away.

The application of the bill of rights
A
- vertical application: applies between state and the individual or private institution
- horizontal application: applies between individuals or private institutions
