Dehiscence

Informed Consent
The surgery can not be performed until the patient understands the need for the procedure, the steps involved, the risks, the expected results, and the alternative treatments. Once the patient understands, consent can be signed. The surgeon is responsible for the consent.
Paralytic Ileus
An occurrence of intestinal blockage. Common after surgery due to medication that is prescribed after surgery.
Anesthesia
Patients under going surgical procedures receive one of 4 types of anesthesia: general, regional, local, or conscious sedation.
This is a state of controlled, temporary loss of sensation or awareness that is induced for medical purposes.

Performed to relieve symptoms of a disease process, but does not cure.
