To explain to the reader what you are arguing.

Topic sentence (reason), evidence, explanation, proper grammar, quotations, citations….etc

The thesis/claim/main idea.

What is a counterclaim?
Two sentences that explain and disprove the other side.
Where is the counterclaim located?
At the beginning of a body paragraph.

What must you do in a counterclaim?
Address the opposing side, and disprove it
What must you restate in your conclusion?
Your thesis/claim/main idea
How do you quote the text?
By taking the authors words, and using them in quotation marks.
How do you cite the text?
By including the name of the author or text along with a quotation

Why should we plan our essay?
To organize and give the essay structure.
