unit 8 Flashcards
-additive relationship:
a relationship among a set of ordered pairs in which
the same value is added to each x-value to find the corresponding y-value
-axes (axis):
the horizontal (x-axis) and vertical (y-axis) number lines on a coordinate plane
-coefficient:
a number that is multiplied by a variable(s)
-constant:
a fixed value that does not appear with a variable(s)
-coordinate plane:
a plane formed by two perpendicular number lines intersecting at (0, 0)
-dependent variable:
the variable in an equation or rule which represents the
output value
-independent variable:
the variable in an equation or rule which represents
the input value
-intersecting lines:
lines that meet or cross at a point
-multiplicative relationship:
a relationship among a set of ordered pairs in
which each x-value is multiplied by the same factor to find each corresponding
y-value
-origin:
the point on a coordinate plane where the x-axis and the y-axis
intersect; represented by (0, 0)
-quadrants:
any of the four regions of a coordinate plane
-rational numbers:
a number that can be written as !
“
in which a and b are
integers but b is not equal to 0; # $ , % & and 1.4 are examples of rational numbers
-solution set:
the set of values that make a statement true
