Weathering
The breaking down of rocks on Earth’s surface into smaller pieces
Deposition
The dropping or settling of eroded materials
Erosion
The process of moving sediment from one place to another
Sediment
Sand, bits of rocks, fossils, and other matter carried and deposited by water, wind, or ice
Delta
Sediment in the mouth of the river, forming a landform. New Orleans
Sand Dunes
When the wind deposites a lot of sand in one area.
Landform
A naturlly made land shape
Causes of Weathering
Gravity, flowing of water, tree roots, chemicals in rain, sand blowing, animals digging, ice wedging.
Crust
the thin outer layer of Earth including dry land and the ocean floor
Mantle
the thick layer of Earth beneath the crust
Core
The layer of Earth extending from the bottom of the mantle. Mostly metallic iron and nickle
Plate tectonics
the theory that Earth’s crust is divided into plates that are always moving.
Fault
A break in Earth’s crust where rock on one side moves in relation to rock on the other side
Earthquake
A skaking of Earth’s surface that can cause land to rise and fall
