Aquifer
A permeable rock layer that can transport water or it can hold.
Catastrophic
A violent thing that is usually destructive in a natural occurrence.
Deposition
A process that is weathered and eroded material that is deposited by wind, water, or ice.
Ecoregion
A area of a land that has a distinct group of plants, animals, and other type of species.
Erosion
A process that is weathered material which can be moved by wind, water, or ice.
Ground water
The water is beneath the Earth’s surface.
Permeability
A ability of a material to pass through water.
Recharge zone
A land of a surface that where water enters an aquifer.
Surface water
Water that collects above the surface of the ground.
Watershed
A area of land, where all of the groundwater and surface water from the area drains from higher areas to lower areas and into the same body of water.
Water table
A highest level of groundwater in an area, beneath the Earth’s surface.
Weathering
A process by which exposed rock and other surfaces are broken down; caused by elements of weather (wind, water, ice) or other mechanisms (physical, chemical, biological)
