Unit 7: DNA Replication & Protein Synthesis Flashcards
What is the function of the Rough ER in DNA replication?
To fold and modify the polypeptide chain
Why do we need DNA replication?
To copy DNA into new cells for the body
List steps of Transcription and Translation:
Helicase unzips DNA - Primase layers primer on strands - DNA Polymerase builds complementary RNA bases and fixes mistakes - Ligase glues double helix back together - new mRNA goes to the ribosome (rRNA) where tRNA carries its amino acid to the corresponding codons on the mRNA - Amino Acids bond to form Polypeptide chain (protein)
what are the differences between DNA and RNA?
DNA is in form of double helix/RNA is single stranded
DNA has the base Thymine/RNA has the base Uracil
DNA only has one type/RNA has 3 types
DNA gives instructions for genetics/RNA transmits instructions
