Define communication
Communication is a process of interaction between people in which symbols are used to create, exchange, and interpret messages about ideas, emotions, and mind states.
What is nonverbal communication?
Wordless transmission of information. Nonverbal communication is the more accurate mode of conveying information. Wordless information is 93% of our communication.
Define body language
Nonverbal communication. Body language is conveyed in many ways including posture, Stance, gate, facial expressions, eye-movement, touch, gestures, and symbolic expressions.
Example of symbolic expression
Wearing our Utah state university scrubs while in public settings is a form of symbolic expression.
Define proxemics
Proxemics is the study of spacial requirements of humans and animals.
What are the three primary categories of communication?

What is metacommunication?
Meta-communication refers to the context of the message. Context is important to the quality of meeting derived by participants during the process of complementary exchange.

Relationship of participants. Characteristics of the environment. Internal mode status (e.g., anxiety). Mental and physical conditions. Experience and education. External noise. Culture.

Define intrapersonal communication
Communication occurring internally. It focuses on personal needs and can influence a persons well-being. Positive self talk is internal conversation that provides motivation and encouragement. Negative self talk may damage the ability of an individual to achieve one’s greatest potential or overcoming adversity. Meditation is another form of intrapersonal communication, So is prayer.
Define interpersonal communication
Interpersonal communication takes place between two or more people. It may be formal or informal and conversational, and it may or may not have a stated goal or purpose.
Define interprofessional communication
Effective collaborative communication among various members of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Setting, context, content, written communication, and electronic communication.
