Major Triad
Quality of the third is MAJOR and the quality of the fifth is perfect. (It is the first, third & fifth of any major scale)
Minor Triad
When the quality of the third is minor and the quality of the fifth is perfect. It is a major triad with a LOWERED THIRD.
Diminished Triad
When the quality of the third is minor and the quality of the fifth is diminished. It is a major triad with a LOWERED THIRD AND FIFTH.
Augmented Triad
When the quality of the third is major and the quality of the fifth is augmented. It is a major triad with a RAISED FIFTH.
Primary Triads
Triads constructed above the first(tonic), fourth(subdominant), and fifth(dominant) pitches of the major or minor scale.
Major Primary Triads
All three primary triads are MAJOR
Natural Minor Form (descending melodic form) Primary Triads
All three primary triads are MINOR
Harmonic Minor Form Primary Triads
Tonic (1st), subdominant (IV, 4) are MINOR and the dominant (V, 5) is MAJOR
Ascending Melodic Form Primary Triads
Tonic (1st) is MINOR, and the subdominant (IV) and dominant (V) are MAJOR.
First Inversion
Third is in the bass(first) position.
Second Inversion
Fifth is in the bass(first) position.
Closed structure
All the notes are within one octave
Open structure
All the notes span more than an octave
Seventh Chord
Combining a triad and an interval of a seventh above the root.
Major Seventh Chord
When the quality of the triad is major and the quality of the seventh is major.
