What is a statutory service?
A service that is required by law and are government funded
What is a non statutory service?
A service that is not required by law, some receive government funding but many are charities or self funded
What is an uniformed statutory service?
Include examples
A required service that also wears a uniform
E.g. Police, Fire and rescue, prison service, Ambulance, UK visa and immigration
What is a non-uniformed statutory service?
Include examples
A required service that doesn’t wear a uniform
E.g. NHS, government services, local authorities, central government
What is a uniformed non-statutory service?
Include examples
A service that is not required by law but still wears a uniform
E.g. The salvation army, St johns ambulance, Red cross, mountain and cave rescue
What is a non-uniformed non-statutory service?
Include examples
A service that is not required by law and does not wear a uniform
E.g. Utility companies, public transportation, charity organisations
What are the main roles of the police?
Protect life and property
Keep the Kings peace
Maintain public order and safety
Enforce the law
Investigate criminal activities
What are the main roles of the fire and rescue service?
Extinguish fires and protect life and property when they occur
Minimise damage to property arising from firefighting operations
Promote fire safety
Rescue people involved in road traffic collisions
Deal with other types of emergencies such as; chemical, biological and nuclear emergencies
What are the roles of the armed services?
Protect the people
Protecting the interests of the UK at home and abroad
Being an active member of the UN
Carrying out operations in support of anti-terrorist and drug smuggling operation
Assisting in humanitarian operations abroad and at home
What are the roles of the custodial care services?
The punishment/rehabilitation of offenders
To protect society from those who break the law
