Identify the different fuel types that result from fossil fuels
Coal, crude oil, and natural gas are some of the numerous fuel kinds that are produced as a result of fossil fuels. The main uses of coal, a solid fuel, are in the production of power and industrial activities. In order to make gasoline, diesel fuel, and other petroleum products used in transportation, crude oil is refined into a liquid fuel. Natural gas is a gaseous fuel mostly utilized for producing power and heat.
Define cogeneration and provide examples
Cogeneration, sometimes referred to as combined heat and power, is a process that produces both heat and electricity from the same fuel source. The heat produced during the power production process is captured and used for thermal purposes such as room heating, water heating, and more.
Examples of cogeneration include turning waste heat from industrial processes into electricity or turning heat from a power station into hot water or heat for surrounding structures. Cogeneration can greatly minimize energy waste and greenhouse gas emissions, making it an efficient way to use fuel.
Fracking
the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc. so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas.
Describe when radioactivity occurs
When an atom’s nucleus is unstable, it becomes radioactive and emits radiation-like particles or energy on its own. Numerous factors, such as having an excess of energy or too few or too many neutrons in the nucleus, might cause this. Alpha, beta, and gamma rays are the three primary radiation types released during radioactive decay. Radioactivity can be created artificially, as in the case of nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons, or it can occur naturally, as in the case of radioactive isotopes found in rocks and minerals.

Compare and contrast active vs. passive solar energy systems.
While passive solar energy systems rely on natural processes, active solar energy systems use mechanical or electrical devices to capture and distribute solar energy. While passive systems are easier to use and less expensive, they could not be as successful as active systems.
Describe how geothermal energy is obtained.
In order to get hot water and steam, wells must be drilled into the Earth’s crust. In order to power turbines, which produce electricity, steam is necessary. Dry steam plants and flash steam plants are the two different categories of geothermal power facilities. Direct heating and cooling systems can also be powered by geothermal energy.
