Social Darwinism
Europe’s justification for economic imperialism. This ideology was based upon Charles Darwin’s idea of how it’s the duty of more evolved species to protect the less developed species
Belgian Congo
Congo, during this time, was ruled over by King Leopold. Leopold was a terrible ruler and used indentured servitude for labor. He also held the slaves family members in captivity so that the slaves could not run away.
Berlin Conference
This was a diplomatic event in Berlin where the European powers divided up Africa and took what colonies had resources they needed. They called this dividing up the “Scramble for Africa”

This rebellion occurred in China and was caused due to Chinese nationalism. The Chinese were trying to remove foreigners in China. Although the rebellion failed, it still showed how strong Chinese nationalism was.

This rebellion had occurred because the sepoys of India had been forced by the British empire to disobey their religious practices. The sepoys were forced to use their mouths to open gun cartridges that were lined with cow and pig fat and risk consuming it which is against their religion.

Export Economy
This a type of economy where there is only one export that provides for the whole economy. This is a bad form of economy because if the price of the one export goes down then the whole economy suffers. This is why this economy was normally used for colonies and not big countries/states.

Western countries like Europe and America used Chinese and Indians to do labor without pay.
Migrant Workers
These are workers that migrate to another country to work and for a couple of months and then they come back to their home country with the money they earned from working overseas.
