Unit 5 Vocabulary Flashcards
AC Joint
a joint at the top of the shoulder. It is the junction between the acromion (part of the scapula that forms the highest point of the shoulder) and the clavicle.
Glenoid Fossa
a shallow depression on a bone into which another bone fits to form a joint, especially that on the scapula into which the head of the humerus fits.
AC Seperation
very frequent injury among physically active people. In this injury the clavicle (collar bone) separates from the scapula (shoulder blade).
Head of the humerus
consists of the bone’s large rounded head joined to the body by a constricted portion called the neck, and two eminences, the greater and lesser tubercles.
Acromion Process
extends laterally over the shoulder joint. … It articulates with the clavicle (collar bone) to form the acromioclavicular joint.
Glenoid Labrum
a fibrocartilaginous structure (not a fibrocartilage as previously thought) rim attached around the margin of the glenoid cavity in the shoulder blade.
Hills-Sach
a cortical depression in the posterolateral head of the humerus.
Brachial Plexus
a network of nerves formed by the ventral rami of the lower four cervical nerves and first thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7, C8, and T1).
Rotator Cuff
a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder.
Stinger
Pinched Nerve
SC Joint
Sternoclavicular Joint is formed from the articulation of the medial aspect of the clavicle and the manubrium of the sternum. It is one of four joints that compose the Shoulder Complex.
Biceps tendon
an inflammation or irritation of the upper biceps tendon.
DOMS
Delayed onset muscle soreness / the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise.
Dynamic Stability
characteristic of a body, such as an aircraft, rocket, or ship, that causes it, when disturbed from an original state of steady motion in an upright position, to damp the oscillations set up by restoring moments and gradually return to its original state.
Synergistically
Synergetic is often used to describe the effect of drugs working together, where one drug increases the other’s effectiveness.
