AC Joint
The joint formed by the acromion of the scapula and the clavicle.
Glenoid Fossa
A slightly con-cave projection of the scapula.
AC Separation
A traumatic sprain to the AC joint, usually caused by a direct blow to the shoulder.
Head of the Humerus
The upper portion of the humerus bone, where the bone attaches to the scapula.
Acromion Process
The lateral triangular projection of the spine of the scapula that form the point of the shoulder and articulates with the clavicle.
Glenoid Labrum
A ring of cartilage attached to the margin of the glenoid cavity of the scapula.
Hills-Sachs lesion
Indentation of the posterior humeral head resulting from the humerus hitting the glenoid during dislocation.
Brachial Plexus
A group of peripheral nerves that leave the spinal cord and extend from the vertebrae into the shoulder.
Rotator Cuff
A collective set of four deep muscles of the glenohumeral joint.
Stinger
An injury caused by stretching or compressing the brachial plexus.
SC Joint
The area that provides movement of the scapula over the backside of the rib cage.
Biceps Tendon
The tissue that connects the biceps muscle to the shoulder girdle.
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
The presence of soreness in the muscles a day or two after overuse of the muscles or a traumatic injury.
Dynamic Stability
Mobility with steadiness of a joint.
Synergistically
Acting together; a group of muscles act together to enhance the movement of a joint or limb,
