Unit 5 Vocab Flashcards
AC Joint
The joint formed by the acromion of the scapula and the clavicle
Glenoid Fossa
a shallow depression on a bone into which another bone fits to form a joint, especially that on the scapula into which the head of the humerus fits.
AC Separation
clavicle separates from the scapula
Head of the humerus
The upper portion of the humerus bone, where the bone attaches to the scapula.
Acromion Process
is a bony process on the scapula. Together with the coracoid process it extends laterally over the shoulder joint. It articulates with the clavicle to form the acromioclavicular joint.
Glenoid Labrum
The glenoid labrum is a fibrocartilaginous structure rim attached around the margin of the glenoid cavity in the shoulder blade.
Hills-Sach
A Hill–Sachs lesion, or Hill–Sachs fracture, is a cortical depression in the posterolateral head of the humerus.
Brachial Plexus
The brachial plexus is the network of nerves that sends signals from your spinal cord to your shoulder, arm and hand.
Rotator Cuff
a capsule with fused tendons that supports the arm at the shoulder joint and is often subject to athletic injury.
Stinger
Burners and stingers are injuries that occur when nerves in the neck and shoulder are stretched or compressed after an impact.
SC Joint
The sternoclavicular joint or sternoclavicular articulation is the joint between the manubrium of the sternum and the clavicle bone.
Biceps Tendon
Biceps tendinitis is an inflammation or irritation of the upper biceps tendon.
DOMS
The presence of soreness in the muscles a day or two after overuse of the muscle or traumatic experience.
Dynamic Stability
The characteristic of a body, such as an aircraft, rocket, or ship, that causes it, when disturbed from an original state of steady motion in an upright position, to damp the oscillations set up by restoring moments and gradually return to its original state.
Synergistically
Acting together, a group of muscles acts together to enhance the movement of of a joint or limb.
