Why do levels of participation and influence in politics vary?
They vary due to factors such as education & awareness, economic status (wealthier individuals have more resources), demographic factors, media influence, etc.
How effective are the various methods of political participation in shaping public policies?
A few examples:
Campaign contributions: financial support for campaigns can influence elected officials
Protests: mass protests can draw attention to specific issues
Social media activism: online platforms allow for rapid spread of information & quickly influences public opinion
Identify / describe the voting rights protections in the Constitution and in legislation.
15th amendment (voting rights for black men), 19th amendment (voting rights for women), 24th amendment (ends poll taxes as a requirement for voting), 26th amendment (lowers voting age from 21 to 18), Voting Rights Act (prohibits specific discriminatory voting acts against people of color)
