A large mass of snow, ice, etc., detached from a mountain slope and sliding or falling suddenly downward.
Avalanche
A storm with dry, driving snow, strong winds, and intense cold.
Blizzard
A period of dry weather, especially a long one that is injurious to crops.
Drought
A series of vibrations induced in the earth’s crust by the abrupt rupture and rebound of rocks in which elastic strain has been slowly accumulating.
Earthquake
A state, process, or instance of combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited and combined with oxygen, giving off light, heat, and flame affecting forests and jungles.
Fire / wildfire / forest fire
A great flowing or overflowing of water, especially over land not usually submerged.
Flood
A violent, tropical, cyclonic storm of the western North Atlantic, having wind speeds of or in excess of 72 miles per hour (32 m/sec).
Hurricane / typhoon / cyclone
The downward falling or sliding of a mass of soil, detritus, or rock on or from a steep slope.
Landslide
A disturbance of the normal condition of the atmosphere, manifesting itself by winds of unusual force or direction, often accompanied by rain, snow, hail, thunder, and lightning, or flying sand or dust.
Storm
A localized, violently destructive windstorm occurring over land, especially in the Middle West, and characterized by a long, funnel-shaped cloud extending toward the ground and made visible by condensation and debris.
Tornado
An unusually large sea wave produced by a seaquake or undersea volcanic eruption.
