Jesus told him to sell all he owned and follow him. The man could not bring himself to do this.

To be poor in spirit means to have the attitude of the poor, to remember that everything comes for God. The spiritual wealth of the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them.

What is envy and how can we avoid it?
Envy is feeling deprived or sad because of another’s belongings, talents, or success. It can lead to unhealthy competition, negative feelings, and sin. We can avoid envy by feeling thankful for what God has given us and trusting in his providence.
What is restitution and why is it important?
When we return or pay for stolen goods and when we repair damaged goods, we need to make restitution. Restitution is essential in receiving forgiveness for violating the 7th Commandment.
What is social sin?
a term for situations and institutions that harm people and are opposed to the will of Christ. We are called to change unjust systems.
Why is taking more than our fair share of the earth’s goods a sin?
The goods of the earth belong to everyone.
What does the 8th commandment tell us?
We should not bear false witness against our neighbor. We should be truthful in all we say which means we must keep our word.
What metaphor does James use to explain the tongue?
The tongue is like the rudder of a ship because it makes a big difference, just as small lies can cause great damage.
Why do people lie?
We are fearful. Some are afraid of not being liked, so they lie and exaggerate. Some lie to be “on top.”
