Emerging Global culture
new technologies = making the world more global and more interconnected - increased speed of trasnport and comms is increasing interactions between economies and cultures and growth of international migration are among factors that have changed everyday lives in recent decades
Proponents of an emerging global culture suggest that - different places and cultural practices are converging and becoming similar
1) export of “superior” cultural traits and products from advanced countries and their worldwide application
2) mixing or hybridisation of cultures through greater interconnections leading to universal cultural practice
Cultural diffusion
spread of cultural traits - when two cultures intermingle
- happens when different countries share inetrest in different sports
- may be forced when one culture defeats another and enforces its beliefs and customs on the conquered people ( cultural imperialism)
Cultural Imperialism
has resulted from economic forces when dominant culture gains influence and control over another - export of entertainment is one of most important sources of cultural diffusion
How has cultural imperialism changed
believe that it started during the industrial colonialism phase - the world is becoming more uniform and standardised through cultural process originating from the west.

Coca-Cola is sold in nearly every country yet is very much linked with US culture. Pringles are found worldwide - although some of the flavours vary from country to country, Mcdonalds

Evolution in urban cultural landscapes
evolution of uniform urban landscapes is the result of a variety of factors : improvements in communication technology that people in cities around world are aware of opportunities
increased international migration
desire of global brands to reach new markets
improvements in the standard of living
aspirations to be part of a global network of urban centers
attempts to create smart cities
Diaspora
scattering of a population, originally referred to as the dispersal of the jewish population from Palestine in 70 AD - now used to refer to any dispersal of a population formerly concentrated in one place
Examples include - forces resettlement of Africans during the slave trade
