Unit 5 Flashcards
AC Joint
The joint formed by the acromion of the scapulas and the clavicle
Glenoid Fossa
A slightly concave projection of the scapula
AC Separation
A traumatic sprain to the AC joint, usually caused by a direct blow to the shoulder
Head of the Humerus
The upper portion of the humerus bone, where the bone attaches to the scapula
Acromion Process
The lateral triangular projection of the spine of of the scapula that forms the joint of the shoulder and articulates with the clavicle
Glenoid Labrum
A ring of cartilage attached to the margin of the glenoid cavity of the scapula
Hills- Sach
Indentation of the posterior humeral head(visible o x-ray), resulting from the humerus hitting the glenoid during dislocation
Brachial Plexus
A group of peripheral nerves that leave the spinal cord and extend from the vertebrae into the shoulder
Rotator Cuff
A collective set of four deep muscles of the glenohumeral joint
Stinger
A injury caused by stretching or compressing the brachial plexus
SC Joint
The area that provides movement of the scapula over the back side of the rib cage
Biceps Tendon
The tissue that connects the muscle to the shoulder girdle
DOMS
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise.
Dynamic Stability
The characteristic of a body, such as an aircraft, rocket, or ship, that causes it, when disturbed from an original state of steady motion in an upright position,
Syergistically
Acting together;a group of muscles acts together to enhance the movement of a joint of limb
