Unit 5 Flashcards
What is an anology?
The idea to explain another
What has positive charge in sub-atomic particles?
Protons
Sub-atomic particles that has no charge
Neutron
What makes up a nucleus of atom?
Protons and Neutrons
Which sub-atomic particle has the least mass?
Electron
How much carat is a pure gold?
24 Carats
How much percentage of gold in a 9 carat gold?
37.5 percent
What was the average temperature of the earth’s early atmosphere in celcius?
400*C
Explain what global warming means?
The rise of global temperatureof the Earth.
How does ice cores help scientists?
The gas from the atmosphere were trapped in the ice cores. The deeper the ice that the gas came from, the older the sample.
How do we differenciate pure diamonds and diamonds mixed with other elements?
Pure diamonds are colourless and translucent while diamond that cnotains other elements are coloured.
How pure is a 92.5 percent of silver
925/1000
How does fossil fuel affect global warming?
It creates greater greenhouse effect.
Give me 4 ways of alternate sources to generate electricity
Wind, Solar, Tide, Hydropower
What is the evidence that our temperature is rising?
The rising of sea levels.
What is the formula of photosyntesis?
carbon dioxide + water ~> Glucose + Oxygen
What is the difference between weather and climate?
Weather happens in a short period of time in a small area while climate happens in long periods of time with a bit area.
What’s the difference between meteorology and climatology?
Meteorology is the study of weather
Climatology is the study of climate
Where did carbon dioxide get formed in the early atmosphere?
the gases of volcanoes
What is the nme of J.J Thompson’s atom model
The pudding model
Who discovered neutrons?
James Chadwick
Who discovered the nucleus and protons?
Ernest Rutherford
What did Ernest Rutherford get through the gold foil experiment?
there is a nucleus.
What is the difference between interglacial and glacial period?
Glacial period spreads further and faster than interglacial period
Explain an ice age
when both glacial and interglacial happens.
What is a fossil fuel?
Fossil fuels are locked up carbon from living things that died.
How does a fossil from shelled animals occur?
shelled animals that die and fall to the bottom of the ocean which then are pressed by other dead shelled animals and slowly form a fossil with sedimantery rocks like limestone.
What is the product of carbon + oxygen
carbon dioxide
what does calcium carbonate form?
calcium oxide + carbon dioxide
Explain what is an Atmosphere?
layer of gas above the Earth’s surface.
what was the percentage of co2 in the old atmosphere
95%
What is an atom?
the smallest part of particle
What holds atoms together?
Electrostatic attraction
What evidence is there that the Earth was much colder before than now?
Boulders that were made by ancient glaciers.
Explain what is a peat bog
Plants that die in a place where there is no oxygen and slightly acidic decays very slowly. the deeper the peat, older it is.
What is humidity?
The measure of water vapour in the atmosphere.
Magnesium + oxygen
magnesium oxide
silver nitrate + sodium chloride
sodium nitrate + silver chloride
sulfuric acid + sodium hydroxide
sodium sulfate + water
barium chloride + sodium sulfate
barium sulfate + sodium chloride
lead nitrate + potassium iodide
potassium nitrate + lead iodide
copper carbonate + hydrochloric acid
copper chloride + water + carbon dioxide
