what is chronic condition?
a physical or mental condition that lasts more than 3 months and often a lifetime
what is an acute condition?
a physical or mental condition that lasts a short time, is intense and develops quickly
what is a disability?
a physical or mental condition that has a substantial and long-term impact on a persons lifestyle
what is a cognitive disability?
when a person has certain limitations in mental functioning and in skills such as communication, self help and social skills
what is a physical disability?
when one or more limbs does not function properly
what is a sensory disability?
a neurological disorder that effects the human brain to process sensory information (such as sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell) normally and properly
what is personal care?
things like going to the toilet, showering, applying creams
what is resilience?
being able to recover quickly from difficulties
what is financial security?
not having to worry too much about money
what is self fulfilment?
hopes and dreams being achieved
how can care values can be applied in practice?
during activities, during mealtimes, during personal care
what is maslows hierarchy of needs?
individuals are motivated to fulfil lower level needs before progressing To higher level needs
what are the physiological needs?
breathing, food, water, clothing, sleep
what are the safety and security needs?
health, employment, property, family, and social stability
what are the love and belonging needs?
confidence, achievement, respect of others, the need to be a unique individual
