one-party system
A system where only one party exists because the government doesn’t believe in/allow any others.
two-party system
A system where two main parties exist and compete, along with smaller parties.
third party
Any of the smaller parties that may exist in a two-party system.
liberal
The government should promote and put justice, health, and education before anything else.
conservative
The government shouldn’t be super involved in citizens’ lives and everyone should live a lifestyle that is traditional and corresponds with their morals.
moderate
A mix of conservative and liberal beliefs.
democratic party
One of the two major parties that consists mostly of liberals or moderate-liberals.
republican party
One of the two major parties that consists mostly of conservatives or moderate-conservatives.
independent
A voter that has their own specific beliefs and doesn’t agree with a certain party.
platform
States a political party’s opinion on vital issues.
plurality
The majority of votes in an election.
PAC (political action committee)
An organization formed to collect money and provide financial support for political candidates.
SuperPAC
A political action committee that does not coordinate with election campaigns and thus is eligible to receive unlimited donations.
hard money
Money that is donated towards a specific candidate.
soft money
Money that is donated towards a general political party instead of a certain candidate.
